I Wish I Could Drive To Qeynos

I did a bit more questing and hit level 21 with my illusionist in EQ2 tonight, mainly concentrated around the eastern parts of Antonica, where I discovered a couple new quest hubs.

But I don’t want EQ2 to dominate all of my time, so I also got back to Forza 3 tonight, continuing to work my way through the single-player career. I’ve collected a few more cars from driver levels now (where I’m up to 15), up through B class, but I’m just about to start the A class championship. I’ll have to buy an A class car, and this is the first time I’ve actually needed to buy a car to progress (technically, I could upgrade one of my existing ones, but I’m trying to keep them within their original classes for now).

Double-Newbie

Yesterday was also spent primarily in EQ2, as I continued cleaning up newbie quests around the Qeynos and Antonica areas with my shaman. And then went and did them again with my illusionist, who’s now up to level 19.

I think that’s as far as I’ll take my shaman around that area though, as he’s starting to run into content that we could do as a group instead.

Alchyholic

The last few days have been pretty EQ2-heavy, starting with our weekly group outing on Thursday. Everybody met up and split into two groups since we had too many for a single group, and we worked our way through the Timorous Deep newbie quests and up through the Green Overlook, which is as far as I got with my enchanter as well.

On Friday I primarily worked on the newbie quests around the Qeynos area, with the xp slider set 100% towards AAs so that I didn’t gain any adventure xp and get too far ahead in levels. And then on Saturday I primarily worked on crafting, getting up to level 24 as an Alchemist. The potions I can make don’t look too exciting, but I’ll also be able to make enchantments that you can apply to pieces of armour to add stats and abilities. After that, I then did some exploration and questing in the Antonica area just outside Qeynos, which would have been the old West Karana and North Karana, I guess.

So, currently I’m at adventure level 15, crafting level 24, and with 16 AA points earned. And I haven’t even spent 15 of the AAs; I still need to research builds, so I’ve only spent one on the summon wolf ability, which was a prerequisite to pretty much everything in one tree anyway.

I Need A Ferrari

I spent some more time in Forza 3 tonight, but mostly in multiplayer this time, as we had a good little group going. I still need to unlock and buy a lot more cars since I’m currently limited to only a couple each of C class and below, but it was still pretty fun, and everyone was pretty close in skill so the outcomes varied a lot.

Vroom!

Today was the release of Forza 3, and I picked up my Collector’s Edition of it right after work and spent a few hours in it tonight. It’s a lot like Forza 2, but the big, earth-shattering change is the rewind ability, as seen in a few other games like GRID. A single little mistake on the last lap won’t ruin your race anymore, as you can just rewind to before it happened. The downside to it is that laps set when you use rewind won’t rank as highly as ‘clean’ laps on the leaderboards.

There are also more cars and tracks, and I’ve been pretty happy with the new tracks I’ve seen so far. I’ve done a handful of F-to-D class races and championships and I’ve stuck with the reward cars for now. I’ve got the AI set to easy, but all of the assists turned off, to try and get used to driving that way first.

And speaking of the AI, it’s capable of making its own mistakes. And even pretty big ones…

Edit: Oh, and since I got the Collector’s Edition of it (I’m a big sucker for special editions), it came with a handful of bonuses, including some exclusive cars I haven’t gotten around to buying yet, a VIP flag on my account (can’t remember offhand what the benefits of that are), and a Forza-branded keychain and 2GB USB stick. The keychain is metal and much sturdier than the cheap plastic thing you’d normally expect to get in a package like this, and the USB stick is a bit small compared to what you can get nowadays, but I can move my Ubuntu live disc over to it and free up some space on my regular thumb drive.

Lucky Day

I’d been trying for the past week and a half to get the squashling pet on my warrior, and after getting it on a couple of alts instead, I finally lucked out and got it today. And if that wasn’t enough, I hatched my egg from the Oracles and got a green proto-drake mount. It’s not any faster than my current mount, but it’s much rarer and more impressive-looking.

Stacks of Packs

Last night was mostly spent in EQ2, preparing for the group by gathering some resources and making a big pile of backpacks. They’re only 6-slot, but it’s better than the nothing you start with and much cheaper than buying them.

I also met up with the guy organizing the group, got invited to the guild, and got elevated so that I can invite the others as I see them. Unfortunately the guild bank is almost full, so I can’t dump the extra collection items I have in it yet. Maybe I’ll have to relieve the bank of some of its burden…

I’ve only moderately twinked my shaman so far, with some leftover junk from my enchanter. Behold, the Oven Mitts of Woe!

Sneak Peek

Today was mainly spent in EQ2, soloing on my Illusionist character. I made it through pretty much all of the Timorous Deep newbie quests, so they won’t be as big a surprise when my shaman does them with the group, but at least the rewards will be different. That got him up to level 15, and I also went through the tradeskill tutorial, getting him to level 11 in crafting. The best thing he can make right now is 6-slot backpacks, since containers are still pretty scarce at this point. Not even my bank’s shared slots are filled with packs yet.

I also popped into EQ1 briefly, just out of curiosity, and apparently there are some Halloween quests going on. I did a simple one where I collected mushrooms in Toxx and got an earring that summons a sporali guardian. Not terribly useful, but it was something new to do.

So Many Newbies

Although our EQ2 group doesn’t start until next week, I spent a bit of time preparing by doing collections (I have six to be turned in now), and made a few other characters and leveled them up a bit. I think I’m actually going to go with a shaman for my main character, to get the group a healer, and I never really played one before even back in EQ1. My enchanter will be my soloing character for non-group days.

Today I also finished off Machinarium, an adventure game by the same guys who did the Samorost games. It’s the story of a little robot separated from his girlfriend, the thugs that harassed him, and a plot to blow up a tower, but it’s all revealed in-game without any words at all. It’s fairly standard use-everything-on-everything adventure fare, but the solutions are a bit tricky in some places and I did have to resort to the hint system a few more times than I would have liked.

And also, back in WoW, I lucked out and found the final book of Arcane Magic I was missing just minutes before a server restart, right after I woke up this morning. I’d picked up the previous seven books fairly casually, but this last one took a few sessions of waiting around before I finally got it today. And for all that effort, I got…an elemental pet. Nothing useful, but I seem to be addicted to collecting pets…

It Lives!

There hasn’t been much to say about WoW lately since I’ve mostly just been doing the Hallow’s End dailies. I’m still missing a lot of masks and the squashling pet on my warrior, but it’s really a matter of pure luck. I also got my mage up to 32 just finishing off the quests around the Hillsbrad area, but I think I’m going to leave him there for now because…

…I’m getting sucked back into EverQuest 2. A bunch of us from a forum are going to try to get a regular weekly group going, so last night I spent some time creating a new character (another kitty enchanter) and getting him to the Timorous Deep newbie area. We haven’t really decided on roles yet though, so maybe I’ll try a cleric instead. Someone else in the group also wants to be an enchanter, and I don’t really want to do a melee class after so much time on my warrior in WoW. It doesn’t officially start until next week anyway.
