The Rock Band DLC offerings this week are rather weak, so back to the Witcher I go…
I found a blacksmith in town, but I don’t have anything worth forging into my sword yet and the armour he sells costs way more than I have. So, it was back to questioning suspects.
I immediately declared Vivaldi innocent as soon as I talked to him. I’m not even sure why, but the game tracks the details I’ve been gathering and I guess I’d found whatever was necessary along the way. It’s a good thing the game’s doing it automatically, because apparently I’m not paying close enough attention…
I talked to Kalkstein and he sent me off on a quest to get into a tower in the swamp, starting with finding a couple books. He also admitted to some involvement with the Salamandra, but only for his own protection and assistance in experiments, so there’s not enough evidence to accuse him of anything worse yet. The two books he wanted were easy enough to find, both being purchasable from Vivaldi, and now I have to finish gathering ten symbols. The four I already had are apparently for this, he gave me one, and I bought another from Leuvaarden, so there are just four more to go.
I also needed to talk to Ramsmeat, but the bouncers in front of his place won’t let me in. I found him at the inn later on instead, but he didn’t have much to say.
Night fell and I defended the hookers from the bandits, and it was tougher than expected. Assassins kept sneaking up on me the first couple tries, overwhelming me, and I was stupid enough not to save near the start, so each time I loaded I had to wait for the rain to subside before it would start. Their madame was appreciative, but not that appreciative, so no card from her.
Other nighttime tasks included fighting off a wraith at the cemetary entrace, and investigating a warehouse at midnight, where I caught Vincent dealing with some Salamandra. Later on he claimed that they were informants who had turned on him, so I don’t have enough evidence to accuse him yet either.
I visited the dike at dawn and learned how to get to the swamps, but I don’t think I’ll go there until a bit later, after taking care of city business first. Leuvaarden was there and filled in a fair bit of information, and on the way back a dock whore liked the amber gold ring I was carrying, leading to another card. It’s a good thing Garret’s witcher status makes him immune to disease…
I checked back with the detective and the statuses of the suspect quests proceeded a bit, mostly catching up with what I’d learned and not really revealing anything new. I wandered a bit more and headed back to the detective again (it looked like one quest was left dangling) and found him being attacked by assassins. After dispatching them, he gave me some more information and an updated suspect list, and took off.
I had to question all of the suspects again, this time declaring Leuvaarden innocent, but not really getting any further with the rest. I’m running out of leads in the city, so maybe it’s time to finally go to the swamps. Finishing Kalkstein’s quest might get him to reveal more information…
And the quicksave feature is nice and convenient, but it’s slightly annoying the way they did it. Each quicksave is really a full, separate save, not rewriting over the same slot. I just checked the save file directory, and it’s already up to 131 saves, taking up over 1.8 gigs. Yikes!
