Word around the office is that there was a shooting this morning at the convenience store I stop at on the way to work most days, just a block away from the office. And, a coworker saw the nearby train platform closed one day recently due to a stabbing.
Being on the edge of downtown, this isn’t exactly one of the best neighbourhoods, but it hadn’t seemed that bad before…

The area you’re in isn’t *that* bad… but then, it’s all relative. All I can recommend is stuff you already know — be aware of your surroundings at all times, and when avoiding people, try not to make it obvious. Stuff like that. There are other options… But not everyone agrees with them.
Of course, if you should ever develop a real, working version of Quake’s BFG, by all means take it everywhere. ;-)
Oh it’s not like I’m dodging bullets as I race for the front door each morning… :-P
After catching it on the news, it sounds like the shooting was actually somewhere else; someone had it confused since there’s a convenience store of the same type nearby.
